Arizona Summer Pool Safety Tips

They don’t call Arizona the Valley of the Sun for nothing! With summer temperatures constantly in the triple digits, it’s no surpriseArizona residents choose to spend so much time by the pool to cool off. However, Phoenix property managers know that the more people hanging out by the pool, the more chances there are for accidental drownings in Arizona. Unfortunately children make up twenty percent of the number of total drowning deaths in Arizona according to the Arizona Department of Health Services and these drowning typically occur in their family or friend’s backyard swimming pool with a supervising adult nearby. Here are a few essentialArizona pool safety tips to help you safely enjoy your summer without incident or accidents.

  • All gate locks and latches should be checked regularly to insure they are working properly and adhere to Arizona residential pool codes and standards. Phoenix property management companies will always check this for the properties that they manage for you. Also, a gate should never be left propped open.
  • Never leave a child alone near water. If you must leave, take your child or children with you.
  • All residential pool owners should attend water rescue and CPR/CCR classes. Otherwise CPR/CCR instructions and the 911 emergency number (or local emergency number) should be posted in the pool area.
  • Enroll children over age three in swimming lessons taught by qualified instructors.

Remember, pool safety in Arizona should be a high priority for everyone not just in the summer, but year round.
